Home Improvement Jobs to Handle Before Summer Arrives

It may feel like Spring is only just arriving, but it won’t be long before Summer is in full swing. When that time arrives, you’ll be glad if you took the time to handle some important home improvement tasks. Handling these things now will not only make your Summer more comfortable, but they will allow you to enjoy your home and yard even more.

Air Conditioning Maintenance

To start, you’ll want to make sure your air conditioning system is in full working condition. You don’t want a hot day to arrive only to realize that your AC isn’t work. Then you’d have to wait around in the heat for possibly days until someone is able to come and repair it. Luckily, AC maintenance isn’t too difficult. You should first replace the air filter and clean out any vents. Then you should run the system and make sure that it not only starts up, but that there are no odd smells or noises. To really ensure that your system is in perfect working condition, consider hiring an AC maintenance team to give it a thorough inspection.

Home Insulation

Now that you’re generating cool air inside the home, you’ll want to make sure that it stays there. The best way to do this is by checking on your home’s insulation. To start, look for any gaps around doors or windows that might let the cool air out. If there are, add some insulation or door sweeps to fill in these gaps.

You can also improve insulation by looking at what you’re using to cover your windows. If you don’t have blinds or curtains, for example, this will allow the sun to stream right in and heat up the room. This will defeat the purpose of your AC, so make sure you have some good window protection before Summer arrives.

Roof Repair

During the harsh Fall and Winter storms, there’s a chance that your roof became damaged. If so, you’ll want to get this addressed before Summer arrives. A damaged roof could lead to water leaking inside the home, and this will only cause more damage.

One common type of damage you might have experienced is broken shingles. According to this Houston roofing company, “Broken or missing shingles are often caused by extreme weather conditions such as a heavy downpour, hailstorm, etc. and improper installation. These conditions cause the shingles to corrode, get blown off, or lose their grip.” The result is that water is allowed to seep in, causing damage to the inside of the roof or inside your home.

Take some time to visually inspect your roof and look for signs of damage. While you’re up there, it’s also a good idea to clean out your gutters. If you’re uncomfortable with doing roof work on your own, hire a local company to handle it for you.

Outside Jobs

Finally, don’t forget about the outside of the home when you’re preparing your home for Summer. If you have an outdoor area, you’ll likely want to spend some time there and maybe even have some guests over during the nice weather days. To get your yard ready, there’s a few things you need to do.

Start with giving the whole area a good cleaning. Pressure wash the house, deck, patio and sidewalks, then go around and clean up any debris around the yard. After that, if you have a pool or hot tub, you’ll want to make sure these are ready to go. Put in the proper chemicals, give it a good vacuuming, and clean up around the outside of it.

Now is the perfect time to handle any home improvement jobs you’ve been wanting to do outside. Once the Summer heat is in full swing, you probably won’t want to be doing any manual labor out in your yard. Doing it now is much easier, and it will let you enjoy your yard when Summer is here. So, go ahead and plant that garden, or repaint the house, or add in that new sidewalk. Once you’ve gotten it done, you’ll be glad you took care of it early rather than putting it off until Summer.

Make Use of This Time

When the Summer heat hits, it has a way of zapping a lot of our energy. You don’t want to be worrying about home improvement projects during this time, so get them taken care of now. Hopefully this list was able to give you some ideas on the types of things you need to get done, and it’ll motivate you to get them done now rather than waiting.
