Ways to Prepare Your Home for an Open House

Selling your house is usually not as easy as just putting a sign up in the yard. Having an open house is a great way to attract a potential buyer, but there are quite a few steps you must take to get your home ready. Although it may seem like a lot of work, be sure to follow these guidelines in order to give yourself the best chance at selling.

Paint

A fresh coat of paint is relatively easy to do and can give your home a completely updated look. If you are uncomfortable painting yourself, you can always hire someone to do residential painting NYC for you. When trying to sell, it is usually best to choose a neutral color, such as white, beige or gray. It is not always necessary to paint the bedrooms but use your best judgement to decide if it needs it.

Deep Clean

Potential buyers are likely to be deterred if they walk into a messy or dirty house. You can either do the cleaning yourself, or you can hire a service to do it. In addition to vacuuming and wiping down countertops, you want to make sure to dust everywhere, wash the floors and scrub showers and toilets.

Depersonalize

You want buyers to imagine themselves living in the house, so it is best to take down most of the family photos. It is best not to leave toys or personal items sitting out as well. If you have pets, try making alternative arrangements for them on the day of the open house as this can be very distracting to people.

Be sure to find a good realtor to help you properly stage your home. Ask your friends and family for recommendations of people they’ve used in the past.Finding the right real estate agent can make all the difference when it comes to selling your house.
